Starluster

"Mission: Destroy all enemies and defend the universe."

Star Luster (スター・ラスター) is Namco's first original game for the Family Computer, and their first tactical 3D space shooter. The game featured a real-time simulation element where the player goes on board the spacefighter to face the enemy fleets amid the ever changing tides of battle. This unique gameplay style caused many people to question the accessibility of the game when it was first released. As time passes however, the players began to take note of the strategic design of Star Luster. Today, it is now considered a masterpiece. The game was released on December 6, 1985 on the Famicom system[1]. It would later spawn a sequel fifteen years later, Star Ixiom, for the PlayStation in 1999.

Strangereal-Galaxian Timeline[]

In A.G. 307, just when the wounds of the Galaxian-Bosconian War was beginning to heal, the UGSF indentified a third new threat to the survival of the Galaxians, the Battura. The relative peace that the United Galaxy enjoyed up until 307 A.G. caused a delay to the updates of their spacefighters. The Battura takes advantage of this by invading and occupying the star systems. The UGSF attempted to fight off the Battura in order to buy time to rush the development of a new spacefighter equipped with the technology at the time. This led to the creation of G.A.I.A, piloted by Dan Heinick. This spacecraft was equipped with the transport drive technology, the "Quasar Drive [also known as the black hole drive]," and a long distance jumping drive, the "Hyper Drive [also known as the quantum teleportation drive]." Upon G.A.I.A's completion, Operation: Star Luster was commenced. Dan realized that the only way to drive off this invasion was to attack the mobile planet of the Battura, Dark Planet, located in the Green Star Constellation where the Battura extracted the IGUDRAZIL. Once there, he destroys Dark Planet causing Battura to retreat. Within the year, the Battura was defeated and the Galaxians have discovered a new type of technology that the UGSF could not achieve from the remains of Battura, the Diastation reactor technology[1].

Trivia[]

  • The G.A.I.A's pilot, Dan Heinick is the ancestor of Roy Heinick, the protagonist of Star Ixiom.
  • Bosco Base was once used by the Bosconian as a fortress; after the Bosconians retreated, the UGSF saw usefulness in the abandoned Bosconian Fortresses and researched them thus gaining insight of the information in regards to the Bosconians. It is now used by the UGSF as a defense outpost and refueling station for Gaia.
