Blast Off (ブラスト・オフ) is a vertical shooting game designed and released by Namco in March 1989 in Japan only. The game runs on Namco's System 1 hardware. Despite the gameplay being like Xevious and Dragon Spirit, this game is a sequel to Bosconian. The designers of the game are Nak and Tak. The player controls the Blaster FR and can cycle through four different types of shooting which allows for a strategic selection to match the game play situation. The first type of weapon fires the red circles in a spiral pattern. The second type of weapon fires the yellow circles in an arrow with three different directions. The third type of weapon fires the blue circles in two verticle directions, which is a tribute to the Bosconian's Original Blaster. The last type of weapon fires the first two green circles in diagonal lines and the third one being behind. The third area increases the size of the player and enemies as it takes place within the Bosconian base. Once the player reaches the central core, the player must destory it in order to destroy the base[1]. The marketing for the game had the hexagon-shaped space stations from the first game in Namco's NG Magazine, in several flyers and pop up cards, and in the game itself[2]. Unlike Bosconian, Blast Off never received any port.
Strangereal-Galaxian Timeline[]
In the year of 2289 [189 A.G.]; the second wave of Bosconian attack commences and a future threat looming behind Bosconian attacks who would appear in 307 A.G. to lay siege against the Galaxians 118 years later, the Battura. Sensing something peculiar with the Bosconians, the UGSF deploys their spacefighter, "Blaster FR." With its deployment, "Operation Blast Off" commenced. Thus, the Galaxian Bosconian War of 89 has begun[1].
